About

There’s an about page? Go figure. I guess I’d better think of something to write here, but for now, a couple of lists to pass the time:

I enjoy:

  • Drinking: coffee (stronger=better), beer (home brewed for preference)
  • Smoking: roll-ups, though the plan is to quit sometime soon (and I’m writing this in October 2011 for later reference)
  • Books: William Gibson for starters, but followed by a healthy diet of most things. Except diet books…
  • Music: lots, but for name checks let’s go with Professor Elemental, System of a Down, Radiohead, and maybe chuck in Mozella to confuse you a bit
  • Food: vegetarian – though that doesn’t mean healthy, I’m an especially big fan of the Tofu and Cashew Nuts from the take-away a couple of doors down

I do not enjoy:

  • Sprouts – just never got the hang of ’em
  • Peaches – likewise
  • Diet books – it would be more helpful if you were edible, rather than sending me off to search for ‘zero fat evaporated milk’…
  • Meat – never did like the taste of it, or the texture – though I’m not a ranting vegetarian, you’ll be pleased to hear
  • Cows – been chased into the River Tweed by the blighters once, chased by bulls and cows, and now I’m pretty convinced they’ve got it in for me

UPDATE: January 2012

Well, I’ve been running for a little over two months now, and it’s been a bit of a roller-coaster. High (and lo) lights have been…

  • I’ve kept going. Never thought I would, but turns out I’ve got pig-headed tenacity that I wasn’t aware of
  • When your knees hurt, they really hurt
  • When your knees get better, it’s like an early Christmas present
  • Off-road is mint, mud is fab and woodland is lovely
  • Running when you don’t feel like running is like being slowly hit repeatedly with a large fish
  • Running when you feel like it is like being borne aloft by tiny angels
  • Most of the time, I feel like running
  • A run makes a 6am get-up have far more point
  • Most runners are quite social, at least they say hi or wave
  • Some cyclists are miserable gets even when they’re on the pavement – not many, but some of them…
  • My doctor could advertise for Nike – Just Do It! He was right, too
  • Because of my doctor’s advice, I avoided shelling out £50 for a podiatrist, and another £100+ for some insoles
  • I haven’t lost much weight
  • I have noticed some of my limbs slowly changing shape, suggesting the presence of a muscle or two
  • I will enter the North Tyneside 10k this year
  • I will likely not enter the Great North Run this year
  • I’d like to run up in the Lakes, and wild camp (sometime in the summer)
  • I am not dead yet – this is probably the most surprising run-related fact

UPDATE: January 2013

  • OK – still alive, but you probably got that bit, right?
  • Since the last update, I have:
  • Run a 10k
  • Run a few half marathons (none official, mind)
  • Run a marathon
  • Run a pudding run, oh yes
  • Entered an ultra-run – that bit of fun comes up in June
  • Lost 3st – over the last year I’ve lost 3st – for goodness sake, how did that happen? BMI is now ‘healthy’… 🙂
  • I have a plan, that’ll be Plan X, which I hope to get underway on August 3rd. I’ll reveal what Plan X is when we get a bit closer – I’m not even sure it’s possible as yet…
